Strong looks good on you

Primarie is a reformer Pilates studio in Providence, built on the idea that movement should be precise enough to matter and intense enough to feel like real work.

We blend contemporary Pilates with athletic components of resistance training to build strength and mobility that holds up outside of the studio, [with tailored adjustments and real technique correction, so you leave each class more in control of your body than when you walked in.

Our Studio

Primarie sits at 200 South Main Street, in the heart of Providence, a short walk from College Hill, Fox Point, Brown, and RISD, and an easy walk from offices downtown. Inside, you will find a naturally li and intentionally designed space.

With only seven reformers in the studio, every class balances the energy of group training with the attention of personal coaching. Our studio uses Merrithew V2 Max Plus, a reformer and tower combination that lets us train in several modalities without changing the setup.

It’s a smaller space by design – fewer people, more attention, every class.

Services

Signature Flow is our full-range class, built for every level and a good place to start no matter your experience with a reformer.

Athletic Flow takes the same foundation and raises the intensity, with faster transitions and heavier loads for clients ready to push further.

Cardio flow is based on our other class formats with bursts of high intensity throughout class for the days you want to spike your heart rate a little extra.

We also offer private and duet sessions alongside our regular class schedule, as well as studio rent-outs.

About

We built Primarie around a simple belief: strength is something you build over time, through real, consistent work, not something you chase with a quick fix.

Primarie comes from the word “primary”, because we think of foundational movement as the building block everything else in your daily life is built on.

Meet Marie

Marie grew up in Oslo and has been moving her whole life, though Pilates found her through an injury rather than a plan. What started as recovery turned into a genuine obsession with training smart, and eventually into Primarie itself.

She runs on black coffee and a deep house playlist, and she believes a studio can be exacting and still feel like somewhere you actually want to be.

FAQ

Is Pilates actually effective?

Yes, when it’s consistent. Pilates builds real strength, better posture, and genuine control over how your body moves, and the results compound the longer you stick with it. It’s not a quick fix – It’s a practice!

How often should I train?

Most clients see real change training two to three times a week. Consistency matters more than any single hard session, which is part of why we built membership tiers around regular attendance rather than one-off visits.

What’s the difference between reformer and mat work?

The reformer uses a spring-loaded carriage that adds resistance in both directions, which adds resistance but also supports throughout movements. Mat work uses your own bodyweight and can be done with or without props. Don’t underestimate mat work, without springs to support there is truly nowhere to hide. All apparatuses are effective. At Primarie, we move between reformer and mat throughout our programming, so you get the benefit of both modalities.

Is Pilates a substitute for strength training?

Not exactly, and it doesn’t need to be. Pilates builds control, stability, and alignment that make everything else you do, including heavier strength work, safer and more effective. Many of our clients train here alongside running, lifting, or another sport, not instead of it.

What should I wear?

Fitted, comfortable clothing that lets us see your alignment, think leggings or shorts and a fitted top. Grip socks are required on the reformer; you can purchase a pair at the studio if you don’t already have them.

What should I bring to class?

We provide all props and equipment for the workout. We suggest bringing a personal towel and a water bottle to class. There is a bathroom and toiletries for a quick refresh post class if needed.

How early should I arrive?

New clients must arrive 10 minutes before class so we can have you sign our waiver, check in, and give you a quick tour of the machine. We suggest returning clients arrive 5-10 minutes before class start time so you can get settled in the studio and grab any props needed for class.

We have a 5 minute grace period. Class doors will be locked 5 minutes into class. No first timers will be allowed in past the start of class for safety reasons.

How far in advance do I need to book?

Given our small class sizes, we’d recommend booking as early as you can. Classes fill up, and a smaller room means fewer available spots per session.

What is your cancellation policy?

We have a 10-hour cancellation window. Cancelling within 10 hours of class forfeits the class credit from your pack or membership. No-shows forfeit the class credit and are charged a $20 no-show fee.

Arriving more than 5 minutes after class start is treated as a no-show, per our arrival policy above.

How does the waitlist work?

Adding yourself to the waitlist means you’re committing to attend class if a spot opens up. You can be automatically added to the class roster up to 1 hour before class starts. Please remove yourself from the waitlist if you can no longer attend. No shows will incur a fee per the above cancellation policy.

Do you sell merchandise?

Yes, we have grip socks and limited runs of studio apparel, available in the studio.

Can I bring my phone into class?

Please silence your phone before class begins. Photography and video are welcome before and after class, but not during, out of respect for other clients.

How do I get there?

Primarie is easily accessible on foot from Downtown and the East Side/Fox Point.

Metered street parking is available along South Main Street from 8am to 9pm, Monday through Saturday, and free on Sundays. There’s also a paid lot at 220 South Water Street, about a 3-minute walk from the studio, or the Dyer Street/5 Pine Street lot across the river, about 6 minutes away.

What’s the difference between Signature Flow, Athletic Flow, and Cardio Flow?

Signature Flow is our full-range class, appropriate for every level. Athletic Flow builds on the same foundation with faster transitions and higher intensity. Cardio Flow blends mindful, controlled work with bursts of higher intensity to bring your heart rate up.

I’ve never done reformer Pilates before. Where should I start?

Start with a Signature Flow class. It’s built for every level, and instructors will walk you through the equipment and adjust the pace before class begins.

If you want additional support or an introduction to the machinery, booking a private session can be a good option to get familiar with the equipment and the movements typically seen in class.

I’m recovering from an injury or pregnancy. Can I still take class?

Please consult your doctor and obtain any necessary approvals before taking class, including if you have chronic or recurring pain, are recovering from injury, pregnant, postnatal, nursing or elderly. Class instructions are in no way intended as substitute for medical advice. Please arrive a few minutes early to your first class back to let your instructor know in advance, so we can discuss any modifications you may need before class begins.

Do you offer private or semi-private sessions?

Yes, we offer privates, duets as well as full studio rent-outs alongside our group class schedule. Please reach out to hello@primariepilates.com for availability and scheduling.
